Skippack Pharmacy has been in Skippack, PA since 1968 but the journey to stay open has not been easy.
In 2018, the previous owner of Skippack Pharmacy sold the pharmacy to CVS Pharmacy. It was not a coincidence. It was not planned. Patients were left floundering with no choice with their prescriptions sent up the street to CVS. It was at this time, Dr. Mak (Mayank Amin) saw the grief in seniors’ and patients’ eyes as he drove by Skippack and decided he was going to do something and stand up for his local community.
This is where the story of Skippack Pharmacy took off and the rest is history. Unfortunately, small pharmacies like Skippack Pharmacy remain under attack of insurance companies (PBMs – Pharmacy Benefit Managers) who often steer patients to their own chain pharmacy or mail order pharmacy and oftentimes under-reimburse independents on medications like brand name drugs.
Dr. Mak reopened Skippack Pharmacy for the community and when COVID-19 struck, it was our community by his side day and night. The stories of Skippack and its superheroes (the community members) echoed around the world. Post pandemic, with our community’s ongoing support, the pharmacy signed a lease for another 5 years and will keeps its doors open.
